This dog breed can be traced to the 15th century and came in different sizes. Dachshunds were already in America by 1885. 11 Dachshunds were registered with American Kennel Club.
All three breeds of this dog, the standard, miniature, and giant schnauzers, were developed in Germany and named for their distinctive “mustache.” They are shown in paintings and statues dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. It was originally a guard dog and ratter. However, its intelligence and bravery were highly prized. Schnauzer is a German word that means “a small beard.”
Intelligence, affection, an extroverted temperament, humor, and a personality that’s twice as big as their bodies. Throw in that walrus mustache and quivering enthusiasm, and they’ll make you laugh every day. It was originally called the Wirehaired Pinscher, but the title of Schnauzer was adopted after the dog’s name, which won the first ‘breed’ class for Wirehaired Pinschers in 1879. In 1899, the miniature Schnauzer was established from Affenpinschers and small standard schnauzers. The American Kennel Club (AKC), the world’s largest purebred dog registry, announced that two new dog breeds had recently received full recognition.

Miniature Schnauzer Doxie’s rough coat and long, wiry hair are very high-maintenance. Regular grooming is essential. If you want to maintain their two-layered coat, the Miniature Schnauzer Doxie’s long hair must be trimmed every five to seven-week. Moreover, the Schnoxie does not have hypoallergenic features. Although many resources, such as the American Kennel Club (AKC), have stated that Schnauzers are hypoallergenic and not shedding. A Schnauzer Dachshund mix will shed less than his Miniature Schnauzer parent.
The Schnauzer Weiner Dog Mix is considered a healthy dog, but there are some health concerns like all other designer dog breed’s. Remember that skin problem and seizures are also common health issues with Dachshunds, so your pup may inherit such conditions from the Doxie parent. However, this dog includes Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) of the spine, “progressive retinal atrophy,” and the possibility of kidney stones. These dogs are more at risk of obesity and pancreatitis. Doxie parents are more susceptible to seizures and skin disorders, which could be passed on to their offspring.
Many pet parents might find that the clever animal needs a bit more training experience than an average parent can provide. The Schnauzer parent is also known to be a willful dog, with an independent streak, whereas the Weiner dog is quite stubborn. Also, Miniature Schnoxies are not the best choice for new owners. You must be patient, firm, consistent, and persistent in order to successfully train your Miniature Schnoxie. This mix can also be trained with treats and other positive reinforcements.

Both parents were originally breeds as hunting dogs. We can assume their offspring will need to get plenty of exercise every day. Lack of physical stimulation can cause anxiety in Schnauzers, and Dachshunds may become disoriented if they are not given enough energy. Dogs will seek out ways to entertain themselves if they become bored. This is often manifested in destructive behavior. To avoid boredom, they will need to be able to run and play for at least 40 minutes each day.
