Bichon Frise

Bichon Frises have a fascinating history. Her oldest ancestor is the Barbet. This was a type of water spaniel.

The original name of the Bichon Cam was Barbichon Cam, after the Barbet. The name became “Bichon” over time. The Bichon is almost a toy with its black eyes and fluffy white fur.

In 1956, Bichons Frises were first brought to the United States by a couple of Bichons Frises. In September 1971, the breed was eligible to enter the AKC’s Miscellaneous class. The breed was also admitted to registration in American Kennel Club Studbook on October 1972. The breed was eligible to exhibit in the Non-Sporting Group of AKC dog shows starting April 1973. The AKC recognized the Bichon Frise Club of America in 1975.

The Maltese are a small, sweet breed with most of the positive qualities people seek in dogs.

The Maltese breed’s origin is unknown, despite his prominent place in history. Many believe the breed originated in Malta, an island in the Mediterranean Sea. It was bred from Spitz- and Spaniel-type dogs. Some believe he was born in Italy. Others think he came from Asia, where he helped to develop many smaller Asian dogs. They were entered at the first Westminster Kennel Club shows in 1870. The American Kennel Club registered a lot of Maltese dogs until the 1950s.

Because they are small and easily injured, Maltese are not the best choice for families with young children. They must be socialized and trained in basic obedience.

Maltichons are very intelligent, as both the Maltese and Bichon Frise are intelligent dogs. Your pup will be smart no matter what parent you choose.

They are playful and gentle. They are happy to please their owners and love being with people.  Also, they are easy to train and adapt well to new situations.

The Maltese Bichon Frise is, like many small dogs, almost fearless. The mix is a great watchdog, but it might not suit owners with small apartments or larger dogs. The Maltichon is more alert if he has been socialized from a young age.

A Maltichon can live between 12 and 15 years.

Health concerns

Certain diseases can affect the Bichon Frise Maltese Mix more than others.

Here is a list of serious concerns that can affect Maltichons.

  • Patellar luxation (kneecap dislocation)
  • Liver issues
  • Eye problems
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Collapsed trachea is more common in small dogs
  • Vaccination Sensitivity

Some minor but still essential concerns are:

Do they get along with other pets?

The Maltichon can get along well with other pets, even dogs. However, Maltichons can be quite reckless around larger dogs so it is crucial to supervise them when they meet new canine friends.

Although you may expect your Maltichon puppy will make friends quickly with all dogs it meets, it is essential to remember that each dog is unique. Positive reinforcement and proper socialization will ensure your dog is ready to meet every new friend.

Although a Maltichon may not shed much, grooming is essential. You will need to brush your Maltichon every day. This will prevent their hair from tangling and matting.

Your Maltichon should be bathed at least once per month. This will help keep their hair clean as they don’t shed as often as other dogs.

You must take regular trips to the groomer to keep your hair healthy. Their coat is not very shedding, but it is still highly maintenance-intensive.

The energy level of the Maltichon is shallow. Although she isn’t a couch potato, you don’t need to do as much to keep her active and occupied. It doesn’t matter if you take her on a hike or play fetch with her. She only needs to be active for 30 minutes per day.

Because Maltichons have such intelligence, it’s relatively easy to train them. Although they are sometimes stubborn, this is not a problem with Maltichons. If you keep things entertaining and engaging, it’s easy.

Keep in mind, however, that Maltichons can easily become bored, so keep training sessions short and keep them coming back. This will help keep your Maltichon interested in each session and aid in general training.

A Maltichon is a happy, affectionate dog who loves being around you. However, if she’s not properly trained, she might want to spend too much time with you. Their intelligence and high level of care can make them difficult to handle. They are great with children, pets, and people, so it’s easy to understand why they are so popular.
